MERGE - Master of Global Change Ecology

Master of Global Change Ecology (MERGE) is an innovative double-degree programme between the University of Bergen, Norway and the University of Würzburg, Germany. This two-year programme offers a dynamic study experience split between JMU and UiB, allowing you to spend 1 to 3 semesters at one of the two. Dive deep into Ecology, Conservation Biology, and Global Change Biology, exploring topics like Applied Ecology, Remote Sensing, and Evolutionary Biology. You’ll study how individuals, populations, and communities interact within complex ecosystems facing rapid environmental change. Gain hands-on research experience by joining ongoing projects, mastering both theoretical and experimental methods, and developing skills to independently plan and execute your own studies. Your final thesis will showcase your ability to analyse and discuss cutting-edge ecological research. By graduation, you’ll be equipped to tackle real-world challenges in ecology and sustainability, design and evaluate research, and contribute to global conservation efforts.

The University of Würzburg (Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, JMU) is one of Germany’s oldest and most respected public research universities, founded in 1402.
